Community Business | Liverpool City Region
Across England, community businesses are bringing a new sense of prosperity and pride to local people. Yet many find it a struggle to access the finance they need to start or grow their community business. Power to Change is an independent charitable trust, set up in January 2015 with a £150 million endowment from the National Lottery Community Fund, to support, develop and grow community businesses. Grant funding of up to £500,000 is available for community businesses in England.
Community businesses receive varying levels of support and guidance throughout their development and tend to be focussed in particular geographical areas. Following the report, ‘Growth, sustainability and purpose in the community business market in Liverpool City Region’ by the Heseltine Institute, Power to Change wanted to further research the types of support offered across Liverpool City Region to ensure that there was a consistent and high quality offer of support available to all parts of the region.
Seeking both qualitative and quantitative insights from community businesses and support providers from across Liverpool City Region (LCR), Capacity used this information to design a bespoke model of business support to be delivered across the region. This model will support community businesses from pre-start up to trading successfully; and will ensure an equal offer of business support to community businesses in all sub-regions of Liverpool City Region.
